Crawler Simulator
The
Crawler-Transporter Vehicles move the space shuttle vehicles
between the Vehicle Assembly Building and Launch Complex 39-A or
39-B at Kennedy Space Center. When the space shuttle vehicle is
fully assembled and checked out in the VAB, the
Crawler-Transporter is driven into position beneath the Mobile
Launcher Platform. The transporter jacks the mobile launcher off
its pedestals, and the rollout to the launch pad begins. After
the mobile launcher platform is ''hard down'' on the launch pad
pedestals, the crawler is backed down the ramp and returned to
its parking area.
Guests can drive a virtual Crawler-Transporter
under a Mobile Launcher Platform and take a condensed journey to
deliver the Space Shuttle from the Vehicle Assembly Building to
either pad 39-A or 39-B. Graphic panels describe
Crawler-Transporter function and show personnel working during a
Space Shuttle rollout.
